Chess Mitra is launched today for blind chess players
It is an established fact that chess is only game where a blind player can play at par with his/her sighted counterpart. It is true that on board blind player may be at equal level but we compare the infrastructure required to learn, prepare at professional level, there is huge gap. Today professional chess players are heavily depend upon technology along with print and digital literature for preparing themselves for competitive chess.
Unfortunately, for blind players there is considerable gap not only at technology area but also availability of basic chess literature. To bridge this gap, we started some work with support from tech community. One of such initiative where Mr. Asim Parera from My Chess App has come forward to enable their chess software for the blind. Today blind players can us e technology for playing with engine, playing online, analysis, solving positions so on so forth. Lots of efforts are going in making chess literature accessible in DAISY or EPUB3 format. Innovative approach has been taken in imparting training using internet radio ‘Radio Chess’. Dr. Charudatta Jadhav who is president of IBCA and AICFB has played critical role in conceptualizing and architecting these technology initiative. Taking this vision forward now new mobile platform is developed to meet all the requirements players.
Chess Mitra’ is new mobile technology solution is conceptualized and developed where all chess technology resources will be available to players at one place. This android base app will have all four software developed by My Chess app, players can launch internet radio ‘Radio Chess’ from Chess Mitra. Also players can read chess books and digital chess literature using DAISY and EPUB3 readers. This application is downloaded free from Google play store and can be used by all international blind chess players. This is one more contribution of India in creating global technology infrastructure for blind chess players.
